The changing work environment
The changing work environment
The global pandemic changed the day-to-day work experience for many companies and their employees. For one international tech company in Oakville, this meant becoming a hybrid work environment with less need for open-concept workstations and a greater need for flexible, multi-purpose configurations. The Glendale Group was contracted to assess various use-cases within the organization, bring forth a recommendation to evolve the existing space, submit designs to the building owner and the city’s permitting office, and ultimately oversee construction.
To repurpose an area of individual workstations into a multi-purpose training and meeting room space
Multi-layered project with one budget and tight schedule
Develop a solution and design that fits the corporate culture within budget and a tight timeline
Deliver functionality and flexibility with a large meeting room that
accommodates 50+ people, and can be divided into smaller rooms for simultaneous small group meetings.
Update and expand the adjacent cafeteria to accommodate increased traffic from the new meeting space
Creativity with attention to details
In the meeting room, movable wall partitions that retract into dedicated closets allow for an easy transition from a large space into 2 or 3 smaller spaces, as needed. It was particularly important to source movable walls that met 50 STC or higher to reduce noise transmission between the small meeting rooms.
The cafeteria next to the meeting room was reconfigured to create a separate gathering area, while enlarging the kitchen to double its serving capacity. As well, the aesthetics of the new meeting space were carried through into the cafeteria with renewed millwork and finishes.
